There’s a moment that happens in almost every coaching relationship … a shift from “I just need help with my CV or LinkedIn” to “I’m ready to understand what’s really going on in my career.” It’s the moment where clarity begins, confidence grows and the deeper work starts to unfold.
Every time I settle into a longer‑term coaching relationship, something familiar sparks for me … a feeling that takes me right back to my early days in Retail Management and HR. Back then, what I loved most wasn’t the policies or the processes, it was being the person who walks alongside someone as they navigate their career, make meaningful decisions and step into their potential with purpose. Twenty‑plus years later, that hasn’t changed. If anything, it’s grown stronger (albeit I had put it on hold for a while). After more than 20 years in corporate roles, seven years running my own business and supporting over 1,000 clients from early career to C‑suite, I’ve learned that real, lasting change doesn’t come from quick fixes, it comes from partnership, exploration and space to grow. This blog is about why that longer‑term partnership matters, what it unlocks and why it’s at the heart of the work I do. A partner throughout your career journey When I work with clients over months (or in some cases years), I’m not just helping them solve a single problem or make one decision. I’m supporting them through the full arc of their career pathway, from clarifying “What do I want my next stage of career to look like?” to building a strategy that feels aligned, achievable and exciting. Longer‑term coaching gives us the space to explore your ambitions, your strengths, your patterns, your blind spots and the stories you’ve been carrying that might be holding you back. It’s not rushed, it’s not transactional, it’s a true partnership and that’s where the real transformation happens. Experience that supports you at every stage I bring the whole of my background into this work, not just the coaching qualifications, but the lived experience of supporting people at every level:
This breadth means I understand the realities of workplaces, leadership challenges, career transitions, organisational dynamics and the emotional side of professional growth. I’ve sat in the rooms where decisions are made. I’ve supported people through restructures, promotions, burnout, imposter syndrome and reinvention. I know what it takes to move forward (having being through it myself as well as with clients) and what tends to get in the way. A safe space to unpick what’s holding you back One of the biggest reasons I love longer‑term coaching is the depth we can reach together. You get a safe, confidential space to unpick the things that feel tangled — the doubts, the fears, the imposter gremlin that whispers you’re not ready or not enough. We slow down the noise so you can hear your own voice again. We explore the beliefs that have been shaping your decisions. We build new habits, new confidence and new clarity. And because we’re working together over time, you’re not doing this alone. You have someone in your corner who knows your story, understands your goals and can help you navigate each step with intention. Yes, I still offer ad‑hoc support, but often there’s more beneath the surface I still absolutely offer standalone support such as:
But what I’ve learned, after working with over a thousand clients, is that these tools land so much more effectively when we’ve first explored the foundations underneath. Often, before we can create a standout CV or build a confident interview narrative, we need to unpick the mindset blocks, the career confusion, or the imposter syndrome that’s been quietly shaping your decisions. Longer‑term coaching gives us the space to do that deeper work first, so when we do move into CVs, LinkedIn, or interview preparation, it’s not just about presenting you well, it’s about presenting the real, grounded, confident version of you. One client described this shift beautifully: “Working with Kathryn was incredibly impactful for my career journey at a point when I was seeking change. The clarity session and job search support provided a structured, practical approach to defining my goals and helping me understand how my skills and experience transfer to other sectors. Kathryn’s guidance replaced my overwhelm with confidence, leaving me fully equipped to take my next step with purpose.” That’s the difference deeper coaching makes, it creates clarity that sticks and confidence that carries you forward. Growth that sticks Short‑term coaching can be powerful, but longer‑term coaching creates lasting change. It gives you:
My clients often tell me that the biggest shift isn’t the new job, the promotion, or the clarity, it’s the confidence they’ve built along the way. The sense of ownership over their career. The feeling of being grounded, capable, and ready. Why this work matters to me I do this work because I genuinely care about people’s careers, not just the outcomes, but the experience of getting there. I want you to feel supported, understood and empowered. I want you to have a space where you can be honest about what you want and brave enough to pursue it. Longer‑term coaching lets me offer that fully. It lets me show up as your partner, your sounding board, your strategist and your champion. And it’s a privilege I never take for granted.
